Pricing Rule Priority
When multiple Pricing Rules match the same booking, ExperienceBank needs to determine which rule should be applied.
This is controlled by the Priority setting.
Understanding how Priority works is important because it determines which Pricing Rule is selected and therefore affects the final ticket price.
This article explains how Priority works, why it matters, and how to configure it correctly.
What is Priority?
Priority determines which Pricing Rule is applied when more than one rule matches a booking.
Each Pricing Rule can be assigned a Priority value.
When multiple Pricing Rules match the same booking, only the matching rule with the highest priority is applied.
For example:
| Pricing Rule | Priority |
| Summer Promotion | High |
| Weekend Discount | Medium |
| Marketplace Adjustment | Low |
If all three rules match the same booking, ExperienceBank applies only the Summer Promotion, as it has the highest priority.
The Weekend Discount and Marketplace Adjustment are not applied.
When Does Priority Matter?
Priority only matters when multiple Pricing Rules match the same booking.
For example, a booking could qualify for:
- A seasonal promotion
- A weekend discount
- A marketplace-specific surcharge
If all three rules match, ExperienceBank applies only the rule with the highest priority.
If only one Pricing Rule matches the booking, that rule is applied regardless of its Priority value.
How Priority Works
Consider a ticket with a base price of:
€100
Three Pricing Rules apply:
| Rule | Adjustment | Priority |
| Rule A | Decrease by €10 | High |
| Rule B | Decrease by 10% | Medium |
| Rule C | Increase by €5 | Low |
All three rules match the booking.
Applied Rule
Rule A has the highest priority, so ExperienceBank applies only this rule.
Calculation
€100 − €10 = €90
Final Price
€90
Why Priority Matters
Priority is important because it determines which pricing adjustment takes effect when multiple rules match the same booking.
For Example:
| Rule | Adjustment | Priority |
| Summer Promotion | Decrease by 10% | High |
| Weekend Discount | Decrease by €10 | Medium |
| GetYourGuide Promotion | Decrease by €5 | Low |
A booking qualifies for all three rules.
Starting price:
€100
Applied Rule
Only the Summer Promotion is applied because it has the highest priority.
Calculation
€100 − 10% = €90
Final Price
€90
This ensures that only one matching Pricing Rule determines the final price.
Best Practices
Use Unique Priority Values
Assign a different Priority value to each Pricing Rule that may overlap.
Example:
| Pricing Rule | Priority |
| Rule 1 | Highest |
| Rule 2 | Medium |
| Rule 3 | Lowest |
This makes it easier to identify which rule should be applied when multiple rules match.
Plan Your Pricing Strategy
Before creating multiple Pricing Rules, consider:
- Which rule should take precedence?
- Which promotion or adjustment should be applied when multiple rules match?
- Are there any overlapping conditions between your Pricing Rules?
A little planning can help prevent unexpected pricing results.
Test Before Going Live
Whenever multiple Pricing Rules may match the same booking:
- Open the Check Prices tool.
- Select the Marketplace.
- Select the Activity.
- Select the Option.
- Review the calculated price and confirm that the intended Pricing Rule has been applied.
Testing helps ensure the final price matches your expectations.
What Happens If Multiple Rules Have the Same Priority?
We strongly recommend assigning unique Priority values to Pricing Rules that may overlap.
Using unique values makes it easier to identify which rule should take precedence and helps avoid ambiguity when troubleshooting pricing issues.
If multiple Pricing Rules share the same Priority value, review and adjust their priorities to ensure the intended rule has a clearly defined higher priority.
Troubleshooting
“The final price is lower or higher than expected.”
Check:
- Which Pricing Rules match the booking.
- The Priority value assigned to each rule.
- Whether the intended rule has the highest priority.
A different rule with a higher priority may be applied instead of the one you expected.
“Why does changing priorities change the price?”
If multiple Pricing Rules match the same booking, ExperienceBank applies only the rule with the highest priority.
“Do all Pricing Rules use Priority?”
Priority determines which rule is applied when multiple Pricing Rules match the same booking.
If only one rule matches, that rule is applied without any priority conflict.
